Sagrada Familia
Article Abstract:
There is a dispute between those who believe Antoni Gaudi's unfinished Sagrada Familia catherdral in Barcelona, Spain should be left as it is and those who are completing it. Completion work is based on models, drawings and notes made by Gaudi and his disciples between 1883 when he took control of the project and 1933 when work was interrupted by the Civil War. Gaudi took inspiration from natural forms and his work on the cathedral shows a progression from the original gothic revival to his unique style using ruled surface geometry. Gaudi chose to complete the Nativity facade before the rest of the building to serve as an example for the architects and craftsmen following him.

Gaudi; the making of the Sagrada Familia
Article Abstract:
The Templo Expiatorio de la Sagrada Familia, Barcelona, Spain was started in 1882 and Antoni Gaudi, a young architect was appointed to supervise the design. He died in 1926 with only the crypt, apse and one facade completed. During the Spanish Civil War, Gaudi's models and drawings were destroyed but work on the cathedral was continued by his disciples, as Gaudi had forseen. The current director of works, Jordi Bonet, using the restored models and drawings, maintains the style and spirit of Gaudi despite using new materials and techniques. The people of Catalonia fund the work by donations.
