Saks addict
Article Abstract:
Proffitt's has acquired Saks in a move that should bring some cost savings, but there is concern about an acquisition that may have occurred prior to an economic downturn. Observers are concerned that the retailing industry suffers from overcapacity, high costs and inefficiency, problems that are masked by a boom in the industry which may disappear, exposing the problems. Proffitt's also has to tackle luxury retailing, since its own business is focused on department stores geared to suburban housewives.
