Salmon men sue for $1.4bn

The salmon fishing permit holders of Bristol Bay from 1991 - 1995 have sued the processors and Japanese buyers for $1.4 billion in a class action suit alleging price fixing. Marubeni Corp., a multinational processor has settled out of court for $25 million but other processors claim no wrong doing on their part and determined to fight the case. The lawsuit has further reduced the salmon prices.

Pink salmon catch tops 121 million
Article Abstract:
The pink salmon catch in Alaska has reached 121 million fish in the year 2003 and is the fifth larges salmon run since 1990, but in weight terms this season could be the largest as the fishes on average weighed one third more. The record hauls have glutted the pink salmon canning market and the prices are at the 2002 levels.
