Samsung restarts plants: damage resulting from power failure could be $43 million
Article Abstract:
South Korean firm Samsung Electronics Co. expects approximately $43 mil in losses sustained from a power outage that shut down six chip factories. A power transformer spark cut electric power to the plants. Although the firm stocks enough chips to sustain customer demand for several days, the outage will affect the firm's profit recovery. Second-quarter operating profit for Samsung fell 67% to approximately $350 mil.
