Expo titillates Korean kids and housewives
Article Abstract:
The 1993 International Exposition opened on Aug 8, in Taejon, South Korea. The theme of the Exposition is that country's evolution into a technologically advanced nation, but most of the exhibits were designed and built by foreign firms. The Expo has yet to attract many foreign visitors but is a big hit with South Koreans. The most popular exhibits are the foreign ones, which show Koreans many of the goods consumers in other parts of the world can buy but which are not available in South Korea due to trade restrictions.

Maverick scientist shakes up South Korea

Lee Myun Woo advocates a new theory for industrial management that builds on the strengths of the Korean people. Lee, head of the Research Institute of Engineering Science at Seoul National University, is inventor and gadfly as well as management theorist. He uses his mobile TV screen and hopping vacuum cleaner to illustrate the future of Korean technology: nimbly seizing on ideas that can be creatively developed, and producing goods using a smaller bureaucracy.
