Co-chairman of Spanish bank quits to calm power struggle

Jose Maria Amusategui has resigned as co-chairman of Banco Santander Central Hispano SA. The resignation leaves Emilio Botin the other co-chair in charge of the bank which was formed in 1999 by the merger of Banco Santander and Banco Central Hispano.
