Satisfaction with space around the home on large private sector estates: lessons from surveys in Southern England and South Wales, 1985-89
Article Abstract:
Astudy of private estates in six localities in the south of England and South Wales found that the residents' views were listened to after the views of planners and the local authorities involved. While most residents surveyed were happy with their housing itself, they were less happy with some issues to do with space outside their houses, such as places for children to play, space to park cars, and not having enough privacy in their back gardens. The views of residents and planners often diverged on the issues that were a particular concern to residents.

Scenarios for the future of the British planning system: the need for a national spatial planning framework
Article Abstract:
Britain's planning system, established in 1947, continues to efficiently provide guidance, incentive and control over the use of land and the current Labour government's policy statement concludes that a modern system must build on past principles. The extent to which the government's proposals are evolutionary or revolutionary is examined and various scenarios for the future of Britain's planning system are supplied. It is suggested that the time has come for a National Spatial Planning Framework.
