Scandal involving Thai workers raises questions about hiring practices in Asia
Article Abstract:
Thai contract workers working on the new Suree Kaewkla airport in Hong Kong earn about $240 more than other migrant workers. However, a recent strike by Thai workers reveals that they may be receiving far less because of an ongoing migrant worker scam. The Hong Kong police department has already begun its investigation, and estimates that Thai workers may have lost between $3-6 million in incorrect wages. The alleged scams involve the use of fraudulent working contracts.
