Seahorse samaritan
Article Abstract:
Amanda Vincent attracted international conservation attention when her ground-breaking research into seahorse sex differences revealed that the seahorse population was under threat due to human activity. Vincent estimates that the international seahorse trade is worth $40 million, with the main demand coming from workers practising ancient Eastern medicine. Vincent's belief in working with local populations has led her to establish local co-operative conservation projects which do not threaten fishing livelihoods.
