Seeking future prosperity for the visual arts
Article Abstract:
During the celebration of visual arts in Northern England several new concepts have been conceived by teams of people from different branches of the visual arts industry. Organisers of the 1996 Year of Visual Arts were keen not only to widen the appeal of art for those who live in the north but to use the occasion to publicize the area, to increase interest from tourists and possibly economic investment. There has been some criticism from resident artists who feel their work has been ignored.

A sense of spaciousness inside a Modernist shell
Article Abstract:
Architects Cany Ash and Robert Sakula have undertaken the remodelling of a flat in a relatively modern block at Ladbroke Grove in west London. The block was originally designed by Maxwell Fry, and was completed in 1938. It is made from reinforced concrete, and is L-shaped. The remodelling involved the removal of a non-structural wall, making the flat more open, and features many curvilinear forms.
