Self-catering holidays abroad
Article Abstract:
Favourable exchange rates, cheaper airfares and windfall payments from building societies are fuelling the UK's growth in holidays abroad. The total number of self-catering holidays sold in 1997 amounts to an estimated 18.5 million, up 7% from 1996 and worth 5.53 billion pounds sterling. Some 35% of the total number of package holidays in 1997 was accounted for by self-catering inclusive holidays, while independent self-catering holidays account for some 70-75% of the self-catering market. An analysis of the market for self-catering holidays abroad is presented.
