Self-regulation not enough
Article Abstract:
Environmental monitoring should not involve loss of international competitiveness according to government recommendations. Organisations working within the UK aggregate industry have agreed on an environmental code, which includes inspecting sites, setting up environmental management facilities, and carrying out audits to make sure rules are obeyed. It is felt that self-regulation on environmental issues should be overseen by government bodies.

Improving our shape
Article Abstract:
A joint initiative by the Confederation of British Industry and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors recommends improvements to the UK planning system. They include planners working with the business community and set standards of quality. Another criticism of the present system suggests that national policy on infrastructure should be clearer.
