Shading out reality
Article Abstract:
Indian motion pictures once examined divisions within Indian society using musical melodrama, yet today the industry tends to avoid contentious issues. Movies are relased with a mix of Hindu values, LA lifestyles, and traditional dancing from South India. Hindu nationalism has affected India's political life, and social divisions are widening. The subject matter of movies also tends to be bland for economic reasons, and as a result of concern about sectarian tensions.
