Shaman loses its magic
Article Abstract:
Shaman Pharmaceuticals used to develop folk remedies to produce drugs, and has not been successful. Other companies have also had problems in this field. It is not as easy to find significant products from a large sample of plants as the public believes. Folk healers tend to be concerned with local health problems like parasitic diseases, while more money can be made from cancer cures. Shaman faced long clinical trials for its Provir product, geared to controlling diarrhoea. There is still interest in seeking drugs from rain forests, but it has lessened.
