Shares are the best long-term investment
Article Abstract:
The conventional wisdom is that stocks represent the best investment over the long term, but this applies more to US stocks, which have tended to perform better than stocks elsewhere. Stock prices are affected by irrational forces since human opinion is involved. Financial bubbles may arise when people become too optimistic. Stocks have historically performed well, but they could still rise to high levels and then fall, not returning to the previous peak for decades. Previous periods of poor performance such as occurred between the mid-1960s and mid-1970s can seem to last a long time for investors.
