Crossing the line
Article Abstract:
Cellular phone service is becoming a viable alternative to fixed-line service in Asia as increased competition pushes prices down. In Asian countries with underdeveloped telecommunications infrastructure, cellular service provides a less costly way to offer telecommunications services in rural villages. Cellular service is also expected to appeal to a affluent urban users who want to be in touch everywhere they go. In China, for instance, wireless phones are projected to account for half the phones by 2000.

Big bully makes nice
Article Abstract:
Impending deregulation of Taiwan's telecommunications market is forcing Chung Hwa Telecommunications Corp. to improve and introduce better services. The state-owned monopoly, for example, has formed a partnership to corporations. The changes are also due to up coming competition from other mobile phone service companies entering the market. Companies offering quality service at good prices will be winners in Taiwan's telecommunications industry.
