Shares of Tyco are hit hard by SEC probe

Tyco International Ltd. announced that its accounting methods are being investigated by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Tyco's share value fell by 23% as a result of the announcement. The SEC is probing how the company accounted for acquisition-related charges and reserves since 1993.

Tyco figures will be jailed at least 7 years

L. Dennis Kozlowski and Mark H. Swartz formerly of Tyco International Ltd. have been sentenced to 8 1/2 to 25 years in prison for fraud. They were convicted of 22 criminal charges of fraud over $150 million and were served fines and restitution totaling $240 million.

Krispy Kreme shows holes in U.S. sales

Krispy Kreme's sales at some its stores in the U.S. have been unexpectedly slow. For the 13-week period ending August 4, 2003, forty Krispy Kreme chains posted around $35,000 in weekly retail sales. This was well below expectations.
