Shaw group to put $600m in film site

A consortium named Hong Kong Movie City won the bidding for a 320,600 sq. ft. film production complex in Tseung Kwan O for HK$78 mn. The consortium include Shaw Brothers, China Star Entertainment, Jing's Production, Media Asia, Mei Ah Entertainment and Era International Hong Kong. It plans to invest more than HK$600 mn to develop the film complex. After deducting the land cost of HK$78 mn, the group plans to spend 60% of the balance on equipment purchases and fibre-optic technology. The rest is to be spent on development of the structures for the film city complex. *

New hotel hopes for strong demand

Regal Hotel International Holdings expects strong demand for its new hotel at the Chek Lap Kok Airport despite the slump in tourism industry. The first phase of the hotel project providing 300 rooms will be completed and available in October. After the hotel is fully completed, 1,200 rooms will be provided. Regal Hotels chairman Lo Yuk-sui expects the occupancy rate of the new hotel to reach about 80%. *
