Shifting sands: Microsoft wades into wireless wars with Ericsson deal
Article Abstract:
Ericcson's partnership with Microsoft is directed at mobile phone-based Internet and word-processing tools development. Their alliance throws the wireless communications industry in confusion, since Ericsson is one of the four major mobile phone manufacturers in the world, and was expected to support Psion, a small British company developing similar e-mail applications as those offered by Microsoft. Ericsson states that it has no intentions to give up Psion, however, it certainly will benefit from the Microsoft deal if only by gaining access to its broad base of software users.
