Short breaks in the UK
Article Abstract:
Estimates suggest that some 34 million short breaks will be taken in the U.K. by Britons in 1998, down 3% from 1997. However, the basic trend in the maturing market is upwards and the weather is thought to have affected the home tourist industry in 1997 and 1998. It is estimated that expenditure on such breaks reached 3 billion pounds sterling in 1997 and it is expected to be similar in 1998. The West Country is the most popular short break destination, with a 14% market share.
