Signs point to Habibie in new post
Article Abstract:
Indonesian President Suharto recently disclosed that he will pursue another five year presidential term, with Research and Technology Minister B.J. Habibie as his likely running mate. The disclosure raised several concerns over Habibie's competence in assuming a vice-presidential position. Although Habibie is a well-noted advocate of science and technology development, critics claim that he lacks the political leadership and military skills to head the country. Some even allege that Habibie misused billions of money involved in the construction of domestic aircraft.

Habibie encourages ruling party to become pro-reform
Article Abstract:
Indonesian President BJ Habibie called for the country's ruling party Golkar to advocate reform to respond to Indonesia's radically changed political scenario. A new chairman was expected to be selected and resolutions taken up in the key meeting of the flustered Golkar. If Akbar Tandjung, whom Habibie chose as state secretary, is not chosen as chairman, it will demonstrate that Habibie does not enjoy the full support of Golkar.
