Singapore's big domestic banks, facing leaner days, are trickier investments
Article Abstract:
The Overseas Union Bank, United Overseas Bank, Development Bank of Singapore and Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp. were once considered the safest investments in Singapore. However, increased competition and the emphasis on cost-effective lending have forced these banks to optimize their operations. The success of these banks will depend heavily on their ability to expand their retail franchises, increase their consumer lending and extend their exposure to the Singaporean real property market.

Kwong Yik's IPO suffers in comparison to its peers
Article Abstract:
Analysts agree that Kwong Yik Bank Bhd.'s impending initial public offering (IPO) is poorly timed. According to them, the IPO price is high and does not factor in the trend toward appreciation after its listing. They point out that the stock does not necessarily have a higher value nor better growth prospects than other banking stocks in the country. Its IPO is priced at 4.20 Malaysian dollars ($1.65) per share, which analysts say almost approximates the current average market multiple.

Article Abstract:
Philippine Commercial International Bank is apparently riding out the economic downturn in the Philippines through sound management, solid bad-debt provisioning an a tough stance on foreclosure.
