Statistics challenge the myths about higher education and more skills for US workers leading to economic improvement. Although government officials believe training and education are necessary, too little money for too many programs causes little to be done to advance adult education.

Publicly funded skills training aims to enhances people's employability, reduce unemployment and create economic growth, but in most cases they do not work. On-the-job training and lowering the costs of employing unskilled workers are more likely to get and keep more people employed.

An analysis of the savings and spending rates of cohorts shows that older Americans consume more than younger Americans. Increased social security and Medicare benefits allows older people to spend what savings they have more freely or to give to their children.
