Some analysts say Asian stock markets may be awash with foreign funds in '96
Article Abstract:
Foreign investors are once again pouring money into Asian stock markets. Some observers say the influx of foreign money in 1996 may reach the record levels attained in 1993. One watcher even predicted that the 1996 inflow will surpass that of 1993. The decision of the US Federal Reserve to lower federal funds rate and the huge profits gained by American equity investors from the Wall Street bull run in 1995 are the two main factors for the new surge of foreign investment in Asia. However, the sheer number of new equity issues could limit the market growth in 1996.

Betting on Sri Lanka: the bourse's long-term outlook is upbeat
Article Abstract:
Sri Lanka's stock exchange almost made it to the top of the Asian performance charts when Colombo's All Share Index soared to a 24% high in 1997. The reason for the sudden turnaround in one of the most disappointing stock markets in Asia is the political alliance between the two political leaders of Sri Lanka. Pres. Chandrika Kumaratunga and oppositionist Ranil Wickremasinghe agreed to put their forces together against the Tamil insurgents. The accord may result in the ending of the 14-year civil war.

Analysts question scope of Asian market recovery
Article Abstract:
Analysts are predicting that Asian stock markets will soon enjoy a recovery as more indications of the markets' bottoming-out begin to appear. However, they are also cautioning investors against excessive optimism. Many expect growth in earnings-per-share of Asian securities to be minimal at best. Some investors are already exhibiting a cautious attitude towards Asian stocks in anticipation of lower growth.
