Hong Kong fund manager sees India, Taiwan markets ripe for recovery

Lloyd George Management Chmn. and CEO Robert Lloyd George is confident that the Indian and Taiwanese markets will make strong comebacks in 1996. In a recent conference, Lloyd George predicted that investment activity in India will pick up as economic reforms push through. As for Taiwan, Lloyd George predicted that the uncertainty which caused the stock market to drop by 27% in 1995 will disappear after the Mar. 1996 presidential elections.

Currency investors bank on Australia and Malaysia

Many foreign exchange traders are betting heavily on the Malaysian ringgit and the Australian dollar. The two currencies have enjoyed major gains recently and analysts believe that they will still appreciate further against the US dollar in the coming weeks. In contrast, currency traders are staying away from the Indonesian rupiah and the Thai baht, both of which are expected to depreciate.
