Post-apartheid South Africa enjoyed a 50% tourist boom in 1995 thanks to its tourism sector's massive promotion efforts. The cities of Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town, and Robben Island continue to be favorite destinations. Added attractions include Kruger National Park which boasts of the largest species of wildlife in all of Africa, the country's year-round temperate climate, and the reduced crime rate. The Hilton, Intercontinental and the Sheraton chain plan to open up more hotels in the country.

Switzerland's political system is considered a direct democracy, a system wherein citizens are called on to vote several times a year on many important municipal, cantonal and federal issues. The Swiss political system was heavily influenced by the French Revolution and the US Revolutionary War and the country's governmental structure was patterned after the US political system. The government's administrative divisions consist of The Confederation, cantons, districts and municipalities.

Swiss voters rejected the federal government's proposed maternity insurance law because majority of them thinks that foreign women employed in Switzerland will take advantage of the new law. Likewise, voters firmly said no to the proposed reduction of disability insurance. On the other hand, they agreed to pass the laws calling for the controlled administration of heroin by physicians and the placement of a stricter refugee law.
