South Korea's alarming recovery
Article Abstract:
The South Korean economy faces a number of risks, although it is undergoing a recovery. There is concern about a debt refinancing announcement from Daewoo, which has led to a drop in stock prices and a rise in interest rates. There are reports of hardships faced by the middle classes in South Korean newsapers. Meanwhile, net exports are rising, and stock-shedding is slowing. There are calls for structural reform to be undertaken more rapidly and the government is aware of the need for reform in order for long-term economic growth to be achieved.
