Spanish practices
Article Abstract:
Banco Bilbao Vizcaya (BBV) and Argentaria plan to merge, and BBV is likely to dominate the new bank, despite the merger officially being between equals. European monetary union has encouraged consolidation in European banking. The new bank will be able to cut costs by eliminating joint expenses in Spain, as well as some Latin American overlap. There is also a possibility of expansion in southern Europe, and BBV is carrying out talks with Italy's Unicredito.
