Spectacles
Article Abstract:
The spectacle sector accounts for 63.2% of the UK eyewear market. The sector has experienced poor growth during the 1992-1996 period, with a value increase of only 9.6%, due largely to competition between opticians' chains forcing prices down. The price competition looks set to continue, with chains increasing their market share from 62.2% in 1996, to 68.6% in 2001. However, other influences, including an ageing population and improving economic conditions, should prove dominant in the market. Other aspects of the spectacle market discussed include distribution, prices and regulations.
