Sports goods in the Netherlands
Article Abstract:
The Netherlands has around 10 makers of sports goods, including swimwear and camping goods. More than 90% of the sports goods sold in the Netherlands is accounted for by imports, mainly from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia. Some high-quality goods are sourced from Spain, Portugal and Italy. Sports footwear (excluding ski boots) is the largest sports goods import category, amounting to 171.2 million Dutch guilders in 1994. Total sports goods imports for the year reached 586.1 million Dutch guilders. Total output of Dutch sports goods makers reached 115 million Dutch guilders in 1993.

Total consumer spending associated with sport in Germany is an estimated 40-50 billion German marks a year, with clothing, footwear and equipment representing 10-15 billion German marks. The German sports clothing and footwear industry produced goods worth 2. 1 billion German marks in 1993, and production is thought to have fallen sharply in 1994.
