Stairway to heaven
Article Abstract:
Thomas Heatherwick has designed a staircase as part of the refurbishment of the pedestrian area outside the Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. The staircase has a central, helical core beam twisting down to ground level. It uses 840 individual sheets of 18mm Canadian Douglas Fir plywood.
