Shrinking disk drives
Article Abstract:
Researchers are continually looking for ways to shrink the size of disk drives while increasing their capacity for storing data. In an effort to store data in ever-increasing amounts, the size of particles in the magnetic coatings of drives' aluminum platters are shrunk further. Research is also being conducted on ways to stack particles vertically, thus greatly increasing storage capacity.
