Stochastic dynamic programming to support sow replacement decisions
Article Abstract:
A personal computer-based stochastic dynamic programming (DP) model for the determination of the optimal replacement policy in swine breeding is evaluated. The model provides the maximal expected annual net returns of current herd sows and subsequent replacements over time. The DP-based system is shown to be viable in modeling such factors as biological variations but are limited by hardware requirements. Result accuracy is effected by the number of DP runs achieved.

Dual variable based fathoming in dynamic programs for column generation
Article Abstract:
Column generation method is used to solve linear programs with a large number of variables. Dynamic program algorithms are used for column generation and a simple technique is used to reduce the state space of these algorithms.
