Stora, Enso to merge via stock swap
Article Abstract:
Stora AB, based in Sweden and Enso Oyj. of Finland are set to merge in a stock deal, that will form Stora Enso, which will be the largest forestry products company in Europe. The deal is prompted by the continuous consolidation trend in the industry and may in effect effect more acquisition deals in the future. Stora, which had sales of $5.69 billion in sales in 1997, and Enso, with 1997 sales of 43.1 billion kronor, will improve capacities and their pricing power as a result of the merger, according to analyst Anders Arjes. Under the deal, Enso will give 0.51 of each Stora Enso Class A share and 0.94 Class R share for every Stora Class B share owned by Stora shareholders.
