Property and casualty insurance companies will face claims of $3-6 billion, as a result of the huge winter storm that hit the eastern states. The combined ratio of insurance has risen to 1.16, while premiums have grown as much as 300%.

The ocean dramatically affects climate in several ways, making accurate forecasts of the El Nino effect and other marine phenomena very useful. The effects of climate change on the sea are less certain and more likely to be long term.
