Structural steel design awards 1998
Article Abstract:
Winning constructions in British Steel's 1998 Structural Steel Design Awards included the roof of No. 1 Court at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, Wimbledon. This construction had to help preserve the intimate atmosphere associated with No. 1 Court, allow unimpeded viewing, and comply with planning requirements. It is a double-curved tubular-steel grid shell, supported by columns behind the seating area, and it incorporates vacuum drainage. Other award winners included the Angel of the North statue, a North Sea oilfield platform, and the Tsing Ma Bridge, Hong Kong.
