Prepositions and particles that behave like them are common in English, and more and more productive uses for them are being found in both British and American English. The newer uses of such prepositions as 'on,' 'over,' and 'down to' are described.

Suicide is a major problem amongst US youth, being the third most common cause of death for young Americans in 1998. The reasons behind this are unclear, although factors may include mental disorder, life crises and drug or alcohol abuse.
