Swedbank wins control of Hansapank
Article Abstract:
Swedbank, or ForeningsSparbanken of Sweden, is acquiring all shares in Hansapank of Estonia from its competitor Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken in a deal indicative of the reorganization of the banking system of the Baltic and Nordic regions. Swedbank Chief Executive Reinhold Geijer indicated that the deal made the ownership structure clearer for the benefit of the major Estonian bank Hansapank. Swedbank will actually receive around 18% of Hansapank in addition to its over 30% stake in the company to create around 200 million kronor, or $25.5 million, in capital gains.
