Sweden's SKF to step up restructuring
Article Abstract:
SKF AB, a ball-bearing producer based in Sweden, promises to step-up its restructuring efforts to improve company profits. The company plans to boost operating profit by 1.5 billion krona by the year 2000 through the restructuring plan, which will involve layoff of 4,000 workers within two years, overhaul of its automotive unit and increased focus on the service segment of the industry. Analysts forewarn that the industry faces overcapacity and might see tighter competition due to the Asian crisis, thus they question the restructuring program since it only focuses on some underperforming segments of the industry.
