Heineken to buy Poland's lead brewer

Heineken NV has consented to purchase Polish brewer Brewpole for an undisclosed amount. Heineken also added that it had already purchased a 9.6% stake in Brewpole and stated that it will increase its share in the company upon the approval of Polish regulatory authorities. The deal, whose other details have yet to be determined, will enable Heineken to control more than 35% of the Polish beer market. Heineken has interests in the other large breweries of the country such as Zywiec and it is also acquiring a 92.3% interest in Browry AG.

Interbrew shows interest in an acquisition of SAB
Article Abstract:
Interbrew NV of Belgium is considering the purchase of South African Breweries Ltd. (SAB), the brewing company that control 98% of South Africa's beer market. The acquisition became a possibility when three SAB investors, Anglo America Corp., Johnnies Industrial Corp. and Liberty Life, which together own 40% of the company, announced their intention to sell a combined 30% of the brewing concern. Should a deal materialize, Interbrew will only need another 5% of SAB before it can begin an all-out purchase of the company.

Interbrew to acquire 50% of OB for $250 million

Interbrew NV of Leuven, Belgium, has agreed to acquire a 50% stake in Oriental Brewery, the second-largest brewery in South Korea for $250 million. Interbrew, best known for its Stella Artois, Labatt and Rolling Rock brands, considers the Asian brewery investment as a step towards its expansion in the region.
