Switched on about the EC

Article Abstract:

There are several online and CD-ROM databases available to organizations that need information on European affairs. EC's commercial host, Eurobases, offers legal, commercial and cultural information on Europe. Among the online databases it can provide are 'Eurocron' which gives access to tabular EC statistical data, 'Info 92' which provides data on the development of the single market, 'Scad' which covers vital EC documents, and 'Calex' which is a documentation system for Community Law. The Community's non-commercial host, the European Commission Host Organization, offers research and development information service called 'Cordis.' Also available from the organization are 'Tenders Electronic Daily,' a directory of invitations to tender for public projects from several countries, and 'I'm guide' which provides data on information services providers in Europe. Other databases are described.

Article Abstract:

The 1992 Hilight Conference, held in London, England in association with the lighting trade show was disappointing. The three day meeting heard a variety of papers ranging from the visionary to the highly technical. The predominance of engineers in lighting design often produces unsatisfactory results. The best speech was on the use of lighting control systems in offices. Overall, the conference was expensive and poorly atended.
