TELCO HITS 6-YEAR LOW ON LOSS FEARS

Tata Engineering Locomotive Company's (Telco) scrip price has dropped to Rs112.80 on October 15, 1998 on the Bombay Stock Exchange. With this, its scrip price has touched the lowest figure in the last six years. Its stock on National Stock Exchange closed at Rs112.85. Analysts have predicted that the company will incur a net loss in the range of Rs75 crore to Rs80 crore during the first half of 1998-99. Its market capitalisation has reduced by Rs8,773 crore to Rs2,856 crore in the last 16 months due to slump in the market. It has suffered a net loss of Rs36 crore in the first quarter of 1998-99. Its turnover dropped by 31 percent to Rs1,277 crore (Rs1,871 crore). (gs)

SAMKRG PISTONS TURNOVER UP 13%

Samkrg Pistons Ltd, a manufacturer of pistons and piston rings for two-wheelers, has increased its turnover by 13 percent to Rs10.43 percent in the third quarter ended December 31, 1998 against Rs9.22 crore in the third quarter of 1997-98. The company's profit increased by 15 percent to Rs1.88 crore from Rs1.63 crore. Expenditure increased by Rs45.58 lakh to Rs6.05 crore while depreciation was Rs1.42 crore compared to Rs1.10 crore. The company's interest charges increased to Rs1.12 crore in the third quarter of 1998-99 against Rs94.04 lakh in the third quarter of 1997-98. (khr)
