THIRD QUARTER NET PROFIT RISES 26.4%

HDFC Bank has increased its net profit by 26.4 percent to Rs18.19 crore in the third quarter ended December 31, 1998 against Rs14.39 crore in the third quarter of 1997-98. Its total income rose to Rs114.63 crore from Rs66.68 crore while total expenses increased to Rs82.99 from Rs43.50 crore. The bank's advances ad corporate debt investments rose to Rs1635 crore as of December 31, 1998 from Rs1042 crore as on March 31, 1998. (khr)

Hyderabad Industries Ltd (HIL), a member of CK Birla group, has posted drop in net profit to Rs22 lakh during first half year of 1998-99. It has posted a turnover of Rs63.14 crore and gross profit of Rs1.42 crore. It has reported interest charges of Rs4.48 crore (Rs3.78 crore) and expenditure of Rs57.69 crore.
