DECOMMISSIONED SHIP IMPORTS TO BE CHEAPER
Article Abstract:
The imports of decommissioned ships to Indian ship-scrapping yards will now be cheaper by about 5 percent. But this benefit will be partially offset by the 1 percent hike in steel scrap from 15 percent to 16 percent. The abolition of the 5 percent additional customs duty will help the Indian ship-breaking industry to compete with China, Pakistan and Bangladesh. (khr)
