TXU pulls out of monopoly power

In November 2001, TXU announced the sale of its electricity distribution business to London Electricity for just over UKPd1.3 billion. The deal includes the 80,000 kilometer network in East Anglia and TXU's 50% stake in 24seven joint venture created with London Electricity. Separately, ScottishPower dropped its plan to sell the Southern Water subsidiary because it discovered it could raise more funds by refinancing the business. Other acquisition deals within the utilities sector are discussed. The utilities deals announced in November are listed by European target or acquirer or by non-European target or acquirer.
