High stakes in Taiwan, the economic view
Article Abstract:
Taiwan owes its economic success to the globalization of its business offerings, particularly in the information technology field, and its investment in China. Taiwan will likely find increased economic success when it has direct-trade relations with China and World Trade Organization membership. The U.S. is, and will become, more interdependent with Taiwan and China, and thus more vulnerable to the effects of regional political instability.

Taiwan warms up to China; Taipei reinforces goal to boost business ties
Article Abstract:
Taiwan has loosened restrictions on investment in China, simplifying the approval process for companies wishing to make investments of under US$20 million in China and removing a US$50 mil limit on individual investments in China. The Taiwanese government is still considering lifting the ban on investment in China for some industries. Political relations between Taiwan and China remain tense, despite the economic thaw.
