This article discusses the trend among the governments of industrialized countries to lower taxes for corporations and individuals. Both the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and the International Monetary Fund have warned against the dangers of tapping surpluses to cut taxes when current prosperity might mask long-term fiscal problems such as paying retirement benefits.
