Damage can no longer be ignored
Article Abstract:
Environmental problems compound the economic problems in Asia. Forest fires in Indonesia have caused US$1.3 bil in damage. Water pollution, air pollution and waste from fast food and supermarket products packaging industries are severe problems in China. Corporate disregard for anti-pollution laws in Vietnam is widespread. Foreign consultants are advising Asian countries on environmental policies, but the ultimate responsibility rests on the Asian private sector and regional governments.
