Telecom Italia chief girds for battle over Olivetti bid
Article Abstract:
Franco Bernabe, managing director of Telecom Italia SpA, is preparing to prove to shareholders that his plans for a reorganization of the world's sixth largest telecom group top what its rival, Olivetti SpA, has to offer. This is occurring amidst rumors that Olivetti SpA could re launch its $58 billion acquisition offer. His plan is to exploit the convergence between fixed and mobile communications by combining Telecom Italia with its 60% owned TIM, Europe's largest cell phone operator. Mr. Bernabe also plans to focus on data transmission services.
