Telecom price wars get brutal in Hong Kong
Article Abstract:
Hong Kong telecommunications providers such as City Telecom Ltd. are offering bundled services for about a quarter of what most consumers in the U.S. pay for similar packages. For instance, City Telecom recently introduced a low cost phone service that allows users to make calls over competitors' broadband networks. Some U.S. phone companies are also offering such voice-over-Internet services, but have not been able to match the cost cutting trend occurring in Japan.

Germany sets local telecom access fee
Article Abstract:
The German Regulatory Agency for Telecommunication is about to set the amount Deutsche Telekom AG can charge competitors to use its network at around 25 marks ($14.50) per month per customer. The competitors will now be able to challenge DeutscheTelekom in local services. Telekom chief executive Ron Sommer claims that setting the fee at that level will put the company under pressure to cut its costs. He doesn't, however, expect it to have a direct effect on jobs.
